Snoop Dogg Is 'Reincarnated' As Snoop Lion: #Exclusives From His Press Conference

Image of Snoop Dogg Is 'Reincarnated' As Snoop Lion: #Exclusives From His Press Conference

(After the press conference, Snoop took a handful of journalists upstairs for an intimate listening of Reincarnated)

Yesterday in New York City, the reincarnated Snoop Lion touched down at downtown hotspot Miss Lilly's for an exclusive press conference to announce his first ever reggae album with Diplo. Titled Reincarnated, the project marks Snoop Dogg's rebirth as Snoop Lion and following of Rastafarian culture. Be clear, this isn't some shtick Snoop is trying because he loves weed. Yes, that's a true fact and everyone knows he loves herb but this goes way deeper than smoking joints and reggae records. Snoop took the time to really learn and experience the culture. The music Snoop, Diplo, Angela Hunte, Jah Dan, and more created was straight from the heart. For the first time in his recording career, Snoop admittedly made a record that could be played for everyone, that includes his own kids and grandparents. Sonically, the album sticks to a more traditional roots reggae vibe and features vocals from singers who were there for the whole process. In fact, Lion actually said he had to tell his team he wasn't interested in getting big names to redo the vocals of Ms. Hunte and Dan. If you aren't familiar, she actually wrote the original 'Empire State of Mind' for Jay-Z and Alicia. Her version sounds crazy, btw.

Snoop says he recorded one of the most important songs of his career on this album, 'No Guns Allowed.' Listen to Snoop talk about it in detail, plus check out fascinating interviews with Snoop and rap and reggae triple OG Rob Kenner/BoomShots after the jump'

Snoop talks about the importance of his new song 'No Guns Allowed.'

Snoop's touching trailer of his life-changing rebirth in Jamaica. Vice captured the true essence of Snoop Lion's transformation and journey around the island. In this clip you can really see that Snoop became fully immersed in Rastafarian culture. The feature documentary will debut at the next Toronto film festival. Check it out above.

Watch Snoop and Diplo's 'Reincarnated' press conference below:

From the tiny backroom at Miss Lilly's in Soho, Snoop and Diplo held a private press conference to announce the upcoming release of their collaborative reggae album, Reincarnated. Hosted by Sway, fans received some real testimony straight from the Dogg Lion. He talked extensively about the project, his experience in Jamaica, upcoming charity project for the island, the most important song of his career and more.

Snoop and Rob broadcast live from Miss Lillys. In part one of their live interview, Snoop explains how his whole Reincarnated movement started.

Lion talks about really traveling through Tivoli Gardens, Trenchtown, and other notorious areas of Jamaica. It's interesting to hear Snoop say he met with people close to Christopher 'Dudus' Coke and his views on how the United States handled the situation.

Lion also goes in detail about his charity project with the owner of Patron. Together, they plan to start a program in local schools that will help teach the youth about farming techniques and business skills to actually sell their fruit crops.

For all the smokers, the highly contested Jamaica vs. Cali weed debate is settled once and for by Snoop himself.

Snoop and Rob K also spoke to Snoop for a more traditional interview. They discuss Snoop's early dabblings in reggae on 'The Day The N*ggaz Took Over.' This is important because Snoop explains how he first became introduced to reggae music for the very first time. It was an early friend and reggae who put him on. It's the same dude on the 2pac's 'Hail Mary' record. WOW.

The conversation concludes with Snoop talking about how he really got his Snoop Lion name aka bihani.

Movie Trailers: 'Taken 2', 'Cloud Atlas' and the Last James Bond 'Skyfall' Clip I'll Watch

Skyfall, the next film in the Daniel Craig as James Bond era doesn't drop until November, 2012. But the new trailer has already sold me completely. (Who am I kidding'it was more like, 'Hey, starring Daniel Cra'' SOLD!) But here's the rub'these insane trailers drop, and then we wait for like 3-4 years, and by the time the movie drops, there's 12 more trailers, each one progressively more dumbed down and 'America's Got Talent'-ified. So come release day, I've seen 75% of the movie, 99% of the action scenes, and that's not okay.
So, as I did with Dark Knight Rises, and Harry Potter 7.2, and Prometheus'I'll enjoy this Skyfall trailer, and just wait it out for 4 months.
We know Bond fakes his death, Javier Bardem plays the baddie with a horrific blond bowl cut (but still not as bad as Bardem's No Country For Old Men bowl cut), there are hot ethnic love interests, and the new gadget tech Q is played by Ben Whishaw (who I loved in the BBC series, The Hour, and who stars in the upcoming Cloud Atlas too).

Do you think Skyfall (directed by Road to Perdition's Sam Mendes) can make up for that annoying Quantum of Solace and get back to Casino Royale status?
In other movie trailer news:
Check out the ridiculous Taken 2 trailer'Hey, Liam Neeson, your family is very abduction-prone: (
And the overwhelming Cloud Atlas trailer'Tom Hanks x Halle Berry'Really?
Watch after the jump

James-Bond-Skyfall-Javier-Bardem
Javier-Bardem-No-Country-For-Old-Men
(a comparison of Javier Bardem's horrifying haircuts: Skyfall vs No Country For Old Men)

Taken 2: Liam Neeson has to save his wife and child again. But now the daughter has gone from bimbo-bait to action hero? No! (Especially since I still have a grudge against actress Maggie Grace for being the most annoying character on LOST)

Cloud Atlas: Based on a very complex book about the interconnectedness of the universe. The Tom Hanks x Halle Berry film looks interesting but with producers The Wachowskis it could either be a mess or a visual feast. The Wachowskis used to be the Wachowski Brothers, back when they made The Matrix. Then one of them had a sex change, and now its Andy and Lana Wachowski. Lana is actually making a rare appearance to talk about Cloud Atlas, with her bro, and the director Tom Twyker.

After the jump, Wiz previews his new album with MTV'..

'I get pretty personal on there, it's like a reflection of me and where I'm at right now. I feel like I did that the best way without getting too preachy or going too deep to the point where I lost anybody. I kept it all in the same playing field so it makes sense. I said, 'I'm put here to take care of the family, but how was I supposed to know/ If I don't take care of myself huh, then how am I supposed to grow.' It's simple, but it means a lot, and anybody who works their ass off will understand and be like, 'Man, the dude is talkin' some sh'.'

I would put the hype up there with the Detox(that's going to be garbage by the way), no matter how good it's never going to achieve the expect ions placed upon it. He dropped Exhibit C, which was amazing, but 50% of that song was Just Blaze's production.

Also on a side note all this Illuminati shit is also such a distraction from the real problems in this world, its just another thing to blame when dudes fail. Lastly fucking a Rothchild doesn't make him more interesting by the way. Rappers should be judged by the music they release not by all the side bullshit.

Totally unnecessary jab. It's not like anyone could ever mix up with Joe was doing at the time (or ever) with what Blackstar did/does. Thought Mos' appearance here meant they had gotten past that. I'll be optimistic and assume Mos was busy if he doesn't make it?

The title of Ross' last song on his upcoming God Forgives, I Don't album sounds so Ghostface Killah, but the track is 100% Maybach. Kreayshawn's 'Go Hard (La La La)' Video: Soul-Crushing or Sorta Fun?

kreayshawn-go-hard-video

I'm still waiting for the mindblowing Kreayshawn song that Pharrell told me about, the song that he begrudgingly admitted to me was pretty damn good. A conclusion that shattered his entire perspective on reality and disrupted the universe's time-space continuum.

This song, 'Go Hard (La La La)' doesn't seem to be it. But at the same time, I confessed to Mikey Fresh and Mr. North today that I don't think it's the most horrible thing I've ever heard/watched either. In fact, I think the beat by German electronic producer Boyz Noize is decent and catchy.
As for the video, the colorful pop-art effects by Syndrome (and Kreay, herself') are packed with blatant Kaws and SoMe rip-offs, Roy Lichtenstein cues, and Mishka eyeball prints'.
but Kreay and her band of she-ferrets actually look cute. Dare I say'feminine?

Perhaps I bumped my head. But I don't hate it'as much as I do this new Owl City x Carly Rae Jepson video that I just watched on Jezebel. Why did I do that to myself?

Watch Kreayshawn's 'Go Hard (La La La)'
And tell me, art reference gets ripped off the most in the video?
after the jump

At the very least'admit how much better this is than this'or this!

Do you notice any of these 'references' in the Kreayshawn x Syndrome video?:
-KAWS:
a sample of his latest exhibit at Galerie Perrotin (Hong Kong). (via Arrested Motion)
-Roy Lichtenstein: amazing pop-art icon who subverted classic comic-book graphics on huge canvases. ('Ohh'Alright', 1967)
-SoMe: award-winning graphic artist and video director, part of France's Ed Banger crew. Did Justice's 'D.A.N.C.E' and Kid Cudi's 'Day 'n' Night' videos. (That Cudi video is still one of my favorite of all time.)
-Mishka: streetwear crew, uses lots of those classic punk bloodshot eyeball icons on their gear. Pretty sure Kreay owns a pair of these and said, let's make a video out of my pants!

Can I honestly ask why Persia who's currently up for the Underground Music Awards 'Female Artist of the Year' does not even seem to be on the radar of the digital tastemakers, bloggers, etc?

Oh well, This 80's looking vid is different'..and bad. I could see it getting heavy play in the Cindy Luoper 'I Want My MTV' days'.

That's usually my same response when people wonder how a heterosexual black dude from the westside of Chicago could possibly enjoy 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' so much.

From what was said in the post you could say she's also ripping off Jeff Koons, Buff Monster(whose work resembles the 'dead eyed X_X' cartoon characters throughout more so than KAWS, Speed Buggy(Old School Cartoon), the hearts and imaginations of young girls everywhere haha(the cupcakes and bright colors), and maybe she used the Mishka trademark eye mats instead of just straight ripping them off and a bevy of other things she may just genuinely like and decided to incorporate in her video' but alas I understand you had a job to do and an entry to fill haha

hahaha'i was just riffing, but I love that you are even more schooled on art references than me. I'm the first to admit I wish I knew more. I'm going to check out Buff Monster. And who do you think gets credit for the original bloodshot eye iconography? I don't know that I really see too much Koons in there but you're probably right. I thought The Love Bug car, but I don't know Speed Buggy.

thank you so much for the insight!

honestly, I don't even think those redundant rap vids get enough of a reaction out of me to discuss. I prefer something that I either hate or love than just'meh.

haha true true I feel you. Speed Buggy was that old Hannah Barbara cartoon with the dune buggy that looked like an alternate Scooby Doo universe, and I just got Koons from the bubbly, weird, furry bits haha

I used to, started focusing more on putting my photography out there, but it is something I've considered getting back into'shameless plug haha but I recently posted some images from an upcoming Styles P and Saigon shoot I was at'but I dunno if I'm supposed to put that out there just yet haha

Why?!?!?!?! How does Kreayshawn keep getting these chances??? I can understand bringing something to hip hop we haven't seen before (white girls rapping), but the golden rule should be held to everybody. Iggy can actually spit, Kreayshawn not so much

Why do you slant everything you write about kreyshawn in such a negative manner, miss info? I'm just curious. I'm not passing moral judgement, simply perplexed as to why you always write about her begrudgingly? It's not like you guys are over here promoting El-p or Killer Mike's latest classics.

Kreayshawn looks so uncomfortable in those heels. Her sister looks uncomfortable in the entire video. Hate to say it but Kreay resembled Amy Winehouse in this vid with the more feminine getup and tatoos. Like the art references though.
