Frank Ocean Speaks on the Early Release of 'Channel Orange' & Recording Process

frank-ocean

Frank Ocean called into BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe on Thursday evening to talk anything and everything on his debut album, channel ORANGE. Ocean discusses the plan to drop the LP a week early digitally on iTunes, citing Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne album as an example for the strategy. The Odd Future singer also touches on his unique choice of location to record the project, his late-night television debut on Jimmy Fallon, and his touring schedule this summer.

'It was actually the plan all along, I kind of wanted to mirror what Jay and Kanye did with Watch the Throne preventing the leak by staggering the digital and physical dates. My thing was, I wanted all the promotional elements to be'.I don't know if the word is retro-active, but kind of follow the album with the videos and the tour and do everything after. And kind of just let the music speak for itself for a second and not be in a situation where the record leaked. It was always my plan to drop it ahead of physical.'

According to HitsDailyDouble, channel ORANGE will sell about 100-125k copies. An amazing feat considering all those sales are digital only, with his singles hardly getting any radio play. Physical copies are available in stores on July 17, while you can purchase the LP right now on iTunes.
