'Boardwalk Empire' S3: 'You Expect Me To Start a War? In New York? Where Things Actually Matter?!'

There are only few good things about summer ending:
When you hug someone hello, you no longer have to always be forced to touch their bare skin or the moist spongey material of their tank top.
Your electric bill is no longer more than your cable bill.
Fewer men in flip flops.
And'.BETTER TV SHOWS!

I can't wait for the return of HBO's Boardwalk Empire (Season 3) on Sept. 16. The ending of Season 2 with the *spoiler alert* unravelling and subsequent assassination of one of my favorite tortured souls in pop culture Jimmy Darmody was gripping! And so now we deal with the aftermath on Nucky Thompson's soul'or the realization that he really doesn't have one?

According to this new preview'the year is 1923, business (both illegal and legal) is booming, girls are doing the Charleston, and Nucky now has a new foe, Gyp Rosetti (played by Bobby Carnavale, who is amazing). Who will have better waistcoats and silk pocket squares?!
And what to do with Margaret on her hypocritical high horse?
And just how creepy will Jimmy's mom get with both her grandson and poor Richard Harrow?

And here's an in-depth interview with Boardwalk's exec producer/writer/creator Terrence Winter:

During seventy years of TV, the audience came to feel that the rules are, you can't kill the second lead on your TV show! Whatever's going to happen, it's all okay because there's no way they can kill the star. So people just got settled in and the question became, 'How's he [Jimmy] going to get out of this at the last minute?' And at the last minute, it played out exactly the way they didn't think it would happen which is that Nucky did kill Jimmy. And if you watch the episode, it's all there. Jimmy Darmody knows he's going to be killed and this is what he feels he deserves. But the audience couldn't accept the idea that we broke the conventions of television and killed off the second lead, even though, according to the code of gangsters, Nucky couldn't let that transgression [Jimmy's betrayal] go unpunished.

On other thing: Speaking of new castmember Bobby Carnavale'he's clearly going to play a great baddie on Boardwalk, but the guy's comedic acting is prime too. If you didn't see that 2011 movie about a runaway wrestling phenom, Win Win'Carnavale is hilarious. And the whole movie is great. See it.
